day seven: kcw feb 2015

Welcome to day seven of Kid’s Clothes Week! You did it: One hour each day for 7 days! Pat yourself on the back!

This morning on Facebook, I asked if this season’s KCW was a boom or a bust. Some people answered that it was a bust, because they only finished one thing or they weren’t productive enough. KCW is not about knocking out a ton of fabulous, stylish, handmade outfits. Some people can do this, but it’s not what everyone is expected to do. I think if you sat down to sew (or cut or trace or pin) everyday this week, then you are amazing! Even if–especially if–you had to rip out every seam you sewed.

Not everyone has the fortitude or the courage to commit themselves to creating things. Taking an hour each day to do what you love is difficult and wonderful. I don’t want to hear any, “I wasn’t productive enough” stuff. You should be very proud of yourself!

That said, sometimes the kids get sick, or suddenly the baby starts teething, or things just go pear-shaped. You are needed elsewhere, you can’t commit to doing something for yourself. It’s okay–life always gets in the way. I want KCW to show you that you don’t need a gorgeous studio or tons of free time to make the ideas in your head a reality. You just need to do a little each day to make beautiful things (and be amazing people).

I will be back next week with the big KCW wrap up. Until then, go pat everyone on the back with a comment or two and tell them how awesome their creations are. They might think what they made was only o.k. when really they are knocking it out of the park.

I feel it has been good (that said, I still have my Sunday sewing to do) but I was wondering, is there a way to link images straight from flickr? I have sewn and taken pictures but have not managed to download pictures first to my computer and then onto KCSW site. If it is possible to link I could feel more successful and actually post my sewing.

Also, the upcycling theme made me feel that this round was geared more towards sewing the younger set, as was the last round (sew me a story, I skipped since I couldn’t think of a single thing to go with a theme, I have sewn every other challenge since the beginning). I have a 9-year-old and when I sew for her I can no longer eke out a garment from a yard, upcycling isn’t as easy any more as it was when she was 5 and under, I feel that the project pool shows the clear orientation to littles. I hope future KCSWs will be more big kid friendly!

It wasn’t easy to squeeze in sewing time, but I’m glad I did it. Thanks for featuring me!

This was my least productive KCW so far but I still had fun!  I love seeing all these beautiful projects.  I do have a technical question (that is probably completely obvious-  sorry!).  Is there a way to see all the projects I’ve “hearted”?  Is it supposed to work like favorites on Flickr?  Thank you!

If you go to your dashboard and scroll down, all your favorites should be there! So glad you sewed along this season!!

Thanks for showing such great understanding for us 24hour-moms. This first days it felt like a joy ride. But at the end of the week there was time to sew but no energy (sleep deprive…). Thanks for pointing to the simple rules!

What fun this has been! I’ve really enjoyed checking out what others have made. My sewing list has grown a great deal this week as has the number of blogs that I follow. Thanks so much for all the inspiration!
