If you sew clothes and haven’t heard of Made by Rae, well then you must live on the moon or under a rock (or under a moon rock)! But just in case…
Made By Rae patterns are fun, easy to sew, and infinitely adaptable. They make sewing accessible to everyone who wants to make clothes for women and children, with patterns full of detailed instructions and diagrams, plus hints and tips for skill development.
Rae is a sewer and a pattern maker and a fabric designer and a mother. Her patterns reflect all of these things. She makes kids’ clothes that kids actually want to wear–they aren’t fussy and they are always comfy. When you sew Made by Rae patterns, you can keep the details to a minimum to show off an amazing fabric. Or you can use the pattern as a starting place to make that fantastic idea you have come to life. They are truly the most versatile kids’ patterns out there.
Her newest pattern, Moon Pants, are no exception. From a fabric-lovers perspective they are perfect. You get to pick and choose from a wide variety of fabric types. I would choose double gauze for the spring, fine wale corduroy for the fall, sweatshirt fleece for winter, and though it often isn’t good for clothes I can easily see using simple quilting cotton in the summer.
The pattern does a fantastic job of showing off your favorite print. And there are so many good prints out there right now. This is the perfect excuse to buy a few yards of that one you’ve been eyeing. I am dying to make Moon Pants for my daughter with each and every one of these prints:

For my sons I want to use soft, durable knits like ponte de roma or french terry. And wouldn’t a pair of Moon Pants be extra cozy in a quilted knit?!
Arg! So many options! Maybe Moon Pants are like potato chips, you can’t just make one. That is a very good thing when it comes to sewing patterns–not so much for potato chips.
You can see now that the Moon Pants pattern is a simple and satisfying sew for everyday-wear, but come Halloween you will be singing Rae’s praises up and down. This pattern could be used in so many different ways: When your kid wants to be a swamp monster or pirate king the Moon Pants will be there for you. When you have to sew the three kings costumes for the Christmas play, the Moon Pants will be there for you. And when you get stuck making fuzzy bunny suits for 20 kindergarteners, the Moon Pants will be there for you (and you’ll wish you never told the teacher that you sew).
I can hear you saying, “Bring me the Moon Pants!” Rae has generously offered to giveaway a copy of her new pattern to 5 lucky winners! Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter by Tuesday, April 21. This giveaway is open to international entries, void where prohibited by law. 5 winners will receive 1 PDF pattern for Moon Pants.
Good luck and Happy KCW!
