giveaway week on KCW!

pattern workshop + giveaway

We have featured Lauren Dahl’s Pattern Workshop in past KCW giveaways and each time I get more excited about the class. Pattern Workshop is an e-course that teaches you how to take your ideas and turn them into sewing patterns! Here is a bit more about it:

Pattern Workshop is the premier course for learning to creating PDF sewing patterns (and paper patterns, too!) for the home sewist. Since its inception in January of 2014, over 400 new and experienced designers have learned to create, digitize, grade, lay out, illustrate, promote and sell their patterns with the help of its creator, Lauren Dahl. In fact, many of the designers featured here on the Kids Clothes Week blog have taken Lauren’s course! Even designers with established businesses have benefitted from the time-saving tips throughout the 20+, video-based lessons.

Now you don’t have to want to be a full time children’s wear pattern designer to take Lauren’s course. You don’t even have to know what you want to do when you are starting the class! But you are a sewer and that usually means you have ideas–too many ideas–about what you are going to sew next. Sometimes you’ll get an idea, have the skills and tools to make it and boom! It’s done and it’s awesome! But other times (and for me, honestly, mostly of the time) you get a crazy idea, sit and think about how amazing this crazy idea really is, and then stop yourself because you don’t know how to….

There are so many things that can stop a project from happening before it even can get started. Maybe you want to make matching pants for you kids with mouse faces on the butts, but can’t figure out how you are going to make two different sizes of the same thing and make them look the same. Maybe you have an idea for an awesome coat and you think you could wing it, but want to make a pattern so you can make it again next year.

Or maybe your daughter has a favorite dress that is getting waaaay too short. You could make another, but you have no idea how to size it up. Or maybe crazy idea pop up in your head all the time and you just shut them down without even considering what they would take to figure out–lollipop purses, soft telephone toys, cozy star-shaped sleeping bags ala Maggie Simpson. I found all of these awesome things–things that were once just crazy ideas–on Pinterest, but you have so many ideas right there in your head.

1. Coachella shorts pattern by Striped Swallow Designs 2. Brueram top and dress by Sofilantjes Patterns 3. LOL swing top by Jennuine Designs 4. Marc shirt by Filles a Maman

All these people took the course and look what they came up with: summery shorts and dresses, swingy tops, and asymmetrical collared shirts! Lauren will take you from idea to finished product.Think of the Pattern Workshop course as an epic journey with Lauren as your guide. She will be there helping you through the gates of “getting the idea out of your head,” leading you through the forest of “digitizing your idea in Illustrator,” assisting you as you climb the twin peaks of “block making and pattern grading,” over the river of “tiling and testing your pattern,” and lastly guiding you through the dreaded maze of “marketing.”

If you need more people to tell you how awesome this class is, there are a ton more here. If you don’t need any more convincing, then you can purchase the course here!

And now for the giveaway! We are, of course, giving away a spot in the Pattern Workshop class, Creating PDF Patterns: from Sketch to Sale, (a $149 value!) to one lucky winner. If you purchase the course before you win, you will be refunded the full price. Use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter by Thursday June 25. • Reply Elizabeth June 23, 2015 at 9:28 pm

Every time I sew a simple basic garment I think “well I could just buy that and save my time and maybe money” but the drive to DIY gets me every time!
