zonen 09 + giveaway

Today is the last day of Giveaway Week. Have you entered all of them: day 1, 2, 3, and 4? Day 5’s giveaway is a very weird. We’re giving away 4 meters of fabric, but I don’t have any pictures of the fabric. I have no idea what the fabric even looks like! pictured here! All this beautiful fabric is certified organic too!

But I know it’s good. How do I know? Because Sharon, from Zonen 09, is behind this new fabric line. Last season we gave away the entire Zonen 09 collection of patterns and I was surprised at how many of you hadn’t heard of this amazing pattern company. Sharon has a keen eye for modern design and, with two boys of her own, she knows exactly what kids want to wear. The result is some seriously cool sewing patterns for boys. Today we’re here to talk about Zonen 09 fabric, not the patterns. I asked Sharon to tell us a bit about how this new venture came about.
The story [of Zonen 09 fabric] is actually the same as the one with the patterns. I sew for my boys but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. It is hard to find stylish boyish fabric that both me and my boys like.

If I wanted boy fabrics I liked I would have to create them myself and although I have the ideas, I can not draw. So I searched for someone who could and had the style I was looking for. I found her in Paris and our collaboration was perfect. She drew exactly what I asked for and added her own special touch.

Here is where I should show you the awesome drawings that came from this mysterious Parisian lady, but I can’t. ARG! Instead I’m going to show you some of the fabric choices Sharon makes, because she has a great style.

Chevrons, snails, crazy stripes? The lady knows how to push the envelope when it comes to boys-wear. Retailers tell us our boys should be wearing red, navy, and gray–and maybe some green for good measure. We make a point to tell our daughters they can wear any color they want, why shouldn’t our sons wear yellow bunnies or aqua stripes if they want to?

By now you are yelling, “When do I get to see this awesome fabric?!  Tomorrow!  You can hang on until then right? Because tomorrow is  Zonen 09’s third birthday, Sharon has put together a special launch party for her fabric collection:

A lot of my customers are Belgian and Dutch bloggers who give Zonen 09 so much visibility without asking anything in return. Without them, Zonen 09 would not have been able to grow the way it did the last three years…I decided to host a product launch event combined with a Zonen 09 birthday party for about 100 of those bloggers and best customers. The event takes place this Saturday June 20th. The invitees will get a few hours of with lots of treats and they will be the first people to see my fabrics. After that the rest of the sewing world can too.
The first Zonen 09 mini fabric collection will be available on Monday June 22th–the first day of KCW!  So don’t worry, you will be able to see what you are going to win before you actually win it:) Sharon has generously offered to giveaway 4 meters of her new fabric: 2 meters of poplin and 2 meters of jersey. I promise I will put up photos when the fabric line is launched, but for now just enter! Because you know it’s going to be good.

EDITED TO ADD: and it is good! This mini collection consists of small scale prints, reminiscent of bugs, in fantastic colors. All Zonen 09 fabrics are certified organic. There is one jersey print and one poplin print, both available in three color ways

I’m so excited to see the fabric line. In hoping for something cool, but sophisticated for a nice fall wardrobe for my son.

  • Reply Louisa June 19, 2015 at 11:24 am

    I love fun knits!

    Very fun knits, love them!

  • Reply Sarah June 19, 2015 at 12:07 pm

I love to see a wide range of colors for boy stuff.   Gray and navy have their place but they end up overwhelming me with boredom!

  • Reply Karly Nelson June 19, 2015 at 12:10 pm

More “mature” stuff for sure! My oldest is 12 and robots and dinosaurs just don’t do it anymore! He would love anything racing though!

  • Reply Amy Mayen June 19, 2015 at 12:20 pm

I agree with Karly ^ above. After 6 or so mine aren’t into the cute prints and it makes me sad. They are into fabric that looks like menswear; plaids, solids, plain tees with some bright ribbing. Stuff like that. Kinda boring but it is what it is:)

  • Reply Kathleen June 19, 2015 at 12:44 pm

I’d love some orange prints. Or even better, prints with orange and green and red, because those are my boy’s favorite colors.

  • Reply Laura June 19, 2015 at 12:45 pm

    I love everything she’s used, so I’m sure I’ll.like what she’s designed!

  • Reply Nathalie June 19, 2015 at 1:02 pm

I’m hoping for some colorful fabrics, and something “different”. Now it feels like “boy’s fabric” is always in the same set of colors, and the same type of prints

  • Reply Sarah J. June 19, 2015 at 1:13 pm

My guy loves anything construction- would love some large construction panels (like the sweet animal panels from Bambilau).

    • Reply Sarah J. June 19, 2015 at 1:14 pm

      Oops– I mean Bambiblauw

  • Reply melissa evans of mahlicadesigns June 19, 2015 at 1:20 pm

  • Reply Radhika June 19, 2015 at 2:12 pm

Geometric prints and plaids are my choice but then I have two girls ….

  • Reply Mindy June 19, 2015 at 2:15 pm

I have no boys, so I’m not sure … but I know my nephews would love dinosaurs.  Or cows.

  • Reply Maria June 19, 2015 at 2:29 pm

Great giveaway! looking forward to see the fabrics!

  • Reply mary m June 19, 2015 at 3:01 pm

I have a very girly girl, but I think farm or nature based prints would be cute on everyone.

  • Reply amy June 19, 2015 at 3:50 pm

I’d like to see something other than the usual boring boys prints-something lively and fun!

It’s so hard to find nice fabrics for boys-you get so sick of plaids and such.

  • Reply Debbie Cameron June 19, 2015 at 6:07 pm

I would love to see more knits – prints, geometries, digital for boys NOT just for small boys but for those that are 7 plus into teenagers.

  • Reply Meritxell June 19, 2015 at 6:19 pm

    I love the knits! Thanks

  • Reply Emi June 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm

I can’t wait to see the new line!

  • Reply Andrea June 19, 2015 at 9:06 pm

One of my twin boys loves pirates, and even though there are many pirate prints in both knit and woven, his favorite color, green, is really rare. So that’s something I’ve been looking for for a while. The other one loves vikings. In blue. Isn’t it fantastic how three-year-olds have very clear ideas about what they like 😉

  • Reply Jess June 19, 2015 at 9:28 pm

i love prints and colors like that set in that first photo block! bright colors in abstract prints!

  • Reply Virginia June 19, 2015 at 11:36 pm

Prints that are not too tacky but still interesting. Geometrics and stripes are cool. Also some fabrics that are more classic.

  • Reply Ann June 19, 2015 at 11:46 pm

My boys are into anything that’s camouflage or earthy tones.

  • Reply Marie June 20, 2015 at 2:54 am

I have always admired Zonen 09 patterns, I’m working my way up skill wise!  One day 🙂

  • Reply Katie R June 20, 2015 at 3:05 am

I’d love some prints with dogs on them!

  • Reply An_nononsonsmoms June 20, 2015 at 4:56 am

Only three hours left and I will see those beautiful fabrics of Zonen09 at the #fabriclaunchzonen09 party.  Yihaa!

  • Reply auschick in va June 20, 2015 at 7:36 am

I’d love to see boy prints in non-traditional-boy colors such as red, pink, purple 🙂

  • Reply Annelies June 20, 2015 at 8:08 am

As a mom of 3 girls, I’m kind of hoping for unisex prints 😉

  • Reply Kathy June 20, 2015 at 8:50 am

These Zonen 9 fabrics look fantastic! I sew, now, for my almost 2-yr-old grandson and I am so excited about being able to purchase gorgeous knit fabrics to rival the top RTW designs!

  • Reply Quilting Tangent June 20, 2015 at 12:26 pm

    Trains, geometric are some ideas.

  • Reply Lee June 20, 2015 at 12:58 pm

I would love to see clouds and birds for boys!

  • Reply Amanda June 20, 2015 at 12:59 pm

What I would love is to see typically “feminine” prints or subjects (like flowers, butterflies, birds) in more gender neutral or typically “boy” colors. So often butterflies and flowers are pink and lavender, and the combination of subject and color is overwhelmingly feminine. But boys like flowers and butterflies too. And butterflies and flowers don’t have to be pink! Love these new fabrics.

  • Reply merel June 20, 2015 at 1:56 pm

something surprising, not standard boystuff. maybe flowers? or hot pink?

  • Reply Joke Serneels June 20, 2015 at 2:51 pm

I was one of the lucky few to see the fabrics earlier today. I would LOVE to have some of those beauties, although I already do, off course ;-). Bring it on!

  • Reply fenna June 20, 2015 at 4:48 pm

I’d love to see prints that are not baby boyish but more tween geared!

  • Reply Laura June 20, 2015 at 7:11 pm

I don’t see for boys very often, but I’d like to see prints in non-primary colors.

  • Reply Shanna June 20, 2015 at 7:49 pm

I’m so excited to see the fabric, I too find it difficult to find fabric I like for my son. I feel like this inhibits my “boy” sewing. I would love to see modern, stylish prints, that both my 5 year old and teenager will think are cool!

  • Reply Rebekah June 21, 2015 at 5:58 am

I’d like to see some great abstract prints with a boyish look and hints of yellow orange teal and aqua.

  • Reply kristi June 21, 2015 at 9:35 am

I would love to see subtle small prints or textures. I’m confident Sharon has something awesome up her sleeve!

  • Reply crystal June 21, 2015 at 10:26 pm

So exciting to hear about the new line, I love boy fabric without the normal cars and trucks, I prefer more geometric patterns 🙂

  • Reply Sally F. June 21, 2015 at 10:38 pm

Oh – I love that someone said nature prints! Other than that I prefer geometric prints to kiddy characters! Can’t wait!

  • Reply Wendy June 21, 2015 at 10:52 pm

Bold colours work for me. I would love a retro 70’s wallpaper bamboo patterned fabric – it would be awesome for lining things but also for wee (or not so wee) shirts and shorts 🙂
