day four: kcw feb 2016

Welcome to day four of KCW!

kcw feb 2016: day four featured garments

1. elevation hoodie by Tami 2. mish-mash moto pants by Gemia 3. sporty way by Yolanda 4. billie by Ann

The boys are making a good show of it today! Skirts are quick and fun to sew, but boys need clothes too! Sewing for boys is always a bit more involved than sewing for girls. Check out those lime green encircled grommets! I don’t even know how Yolanda pulled that off, but it’s super awesome.  That effort is usually* rewarded by your boys wearing the heck out of their handmade.

*unless they have decided to be stinkers that day:)

kcw feb 2016: day four featured garments

1. cocoon dress by Lies 2. crocodile sweater by Natalie 3. dinosaur origami trousers by An 4. mr. roboto skirt by Roxanne

You might be up to your elbows in laundry and dishes and half-finished projects, but don’t dispair! There is plenty of time yet. Commit to an hour today and then come back tomorrow refreshed and ready to sew!  the winner is...

The winner of the  the Oliver + S and Sew Modern giveaway is Soumya from a little paper boat. Congratulations Soumya, you have won the a digital pattern from Oliver + S and 1 yard of fabric from Sew Modern!

Welcome to day three of Kid’s Clothes Week! The project pool is overflowing with gorgeous clothes!

kcw feb 2016: day three featured garments

1. j. crew knock off dress by Darcy 2. paper boat dress by Eva 3. toy soldiers by Tenille 4. spring in blue by Polly

Paper boat dresses and toy soldier shirts! I love the way you guys are playing with prints. Perfect for the theme and perfect for springtime too. Spring has sprung all over KCW–no matter the weather outside. Spring means pink! pink! pink! And there is lots of that in the project pool. And birds and princess kitties and bespectacled giraffes:)

kcw feb 2016: day three featured garments

1. a very pink sailboat top by Angela 2. princess kitty by Amy 3. springtime class picnic blouse by Leslie 4. sunny day shorts by Brittney

Like clockwork every KCW, Wednesday comes around and your creative energy explodes. Maybe it’s the rush of finishing a garment, then suddenly you want to make another. Maybe it’s remembering that this really isn’t that hard and why was I putting it off anyway? Maybe it’s the sheer concentration of amazingness in the project pool–I must make ___fill in the blank___ after seeing that amazing ___fill in the blank___! Whatever it is, don’t stop!

day two: kcw feb 2016

Have you ever seen so much happy in one place! I mean look at these kids! When it’s way past your bedtime and you are swearing at the sewing machine, try to remember the uncontainable joy that is a kid in handmade clothes made just for them. Granted you might also get an uncontrolable fit when the pants are TOO ITCHY!!! or the shirt is TOO RED!!! It is a gamble after all, but when you win, you win big!

kcw feb 2016: day two featured garments

1. having fun by Mareike 2. penguins 1.0 by Roxanne 3. a childhood tribute by Becca 4. rainbow bright by Jodie

The project pool is slowly starting to fill up. There are a few TOYS! themed projects here and there. I can’t wait to see what you come up with–you guys always surprise me!

1. micky mouse by Lies 2. vintage pillowcase turned cute little top by Amy 3. slimleg leggings by Eulalia 4. sudadera bb8 by Naii

Be sure to check out Facebook for some KCW chats and Instagram for all the in progress shots.  If you look at the hashtag #kidsclothesweek you’ll start thinking, “ooo! that’s a good idea!” and “my kid could do that!” and “oh yeah, I own that pattern!” And suddenly you have a few more to-sew items on your list.  Let yourself get swept up in the creative momentum! Who knows where it will take you.
