Welcome to day four of Kid’s Clothes Week! We are already more than halfway through and you guys are on fire!

This season’s theme [THE FUTURE] is a little tricky, but you guys don’t shy away from creative challenges. No! You go full steam ahead with sparkly metallics, black & white baby clothes, handmade galaxy prints, and robots robots robots! It occurs to me now that winter-y futuristic clothes might be easier than summery ones (you hear that southern hemisphere?!). In movies set in the future, it is always cold and gray. No one is planning ultramodern clothes for our future hot planet. Except you! And you are knocking out of the park.

I’ve always said the KCW crew has a way with prints and it’s true. You know when to splash out with a bold print and how to temper it with solids when that bold print gets a little out of control. You know when to add a bit of print here and there when your garment is looking a little flat. You are artists! Do you hear that? Artists! I hope you give yourself credit for the work you have done and the amazing artists you have become.
Welcome to day three of Kid’s Clothes Week! The weather is heating up in these parts and that means my children’s wardrobe will soon be whittled down to two things: shorts and t-shirts.

Sometimes they mix it up with t-shirts and shorts. Any way you slice it, the sewing of said wardrobe soon gets a tad boring. Why not mix it up with clever graphics or adorable chickens?! Or change up jersey for chambray–so lovely to slip on after a hot day–or french terry–just right after the pool!

Don’t worry if you haven’t finished anything yet or if everything you’ve tried to finish has gone down the toilet. All that matters is that you sit down to sew (or cut or trace or pin) each day this week. The very fussy, very sweet shorts pattern you’re working on might not work. But maybe the universe telling you that you need to make some comfy space harem shorts instead!

For the most part I try to keep KCW season-less–even though we have one each season;) I’m trying not to exclude the whole southern hemisphere with a lot of talk about our lovely late-spring, super-gorgeous, almost-summer weather we’re having. But the beautiful springtime colors you are using this season are too much! Peach and mint are everywhere, with a splash of bright yellow to drive it home. I want to eat this summer color scheme right up!

Not to mention the all the pandas and stripes and polka dots! The project pool is starting to fill up with fantastic finished garments. But don’t get discouraged by all the well-lit photos with non-screaming kids wearing well-fitting clothes. For all the pretty pictures you see in the pool, just remember there are many more not so pretty things that came first (late night yelling matches with your sewing machine for example). Also remember a few skittles in the pocket make for a cute photo. When that doesn’t work, just crop their crying head off in photoshop and move on.
