day five: kcw feb 2016

Welcome to day five of KCW. You probably have a busy weekend coming up, but don’t stop now! There are still two more days in KCW and you need to find those hours somewhere. I know you can!

kcw feb 2016: day five featured garments

1. animal long sleeve by Eva 2. love you leggings by Erin 3. circle sweater by Sew 4. doodle army by Karly

The last steps are always the hardest. I asked on facebook this morning which sewing bits were your least favorite. Buttonholes, hemming, neck binding, these are no one’s best friends. It’s good to know that even the sewers you most admire (and seem to sew no wrong) have things they hate too.

Just because you love sewing doesn’t mean you have to love every single bit of sewing. Sometimes you need to power through the not so fun bits to get to the “look at this amazing thing I made” feeling. This is when KCW saves the day: if you put in your hours this weekend, it’ll all get done!

kcw feb 2016: day five featured garments

1. pompom tutu by Jess 2. dollhouse doll dress by Soumya 3. bias stripes by Naii 4. velcro darts game by Stannel

I bet all these sewers are feeling that feeling right about now. There are so many beautiful and playful garments in the project pool: pompoms in your skirt, doodles on your shirt, and a dart board you can wear!! Do you have any favorites so far?

day five: kcw october 2015

Welcome to day five of Kid’s Clothes Week! Today is the day I usually give my “it’s kid’s clothes week, not kid’s clothes take-the-weekend-off” speech. But I’m not going to, because you know. You know that you can find an hour each day this weekend. You know if you sit down to sew you are going to feel better. You know those hems aren’t going to sew themselves. You know you can do this.

day five: kcw october 2015

1. wolf, a perfect match by Lieve 2. pjs by Hannah 3. lotta forest skirt by Fabienne 4. mailbox costume by Melissa

Because when your kid wants to be a mailbox for Halloween, you know you are going to sew something that resembles a mailbox. Because how awesome is a kid dressed up as a mailbox?! Looks at all those smiles! Those are some happy kids in some fantastic handmade clothes.

day five: kcw october 2015

1. secret agent mini southport by Lindsay 2. dachshund pajamas by Stacey 3. davy crockett shirt by Jess 4. craft apron by Ivy

I tend to flit from project to project: sewing a bit here, a bit there. So it’s about this time when I feel like I’ve been sewing and sewing and somehow have nothing to show for it. Then I’ll suck it up and sew a bunch of hems and tada! suddenly I’ve got finished garments all over the place! Do you sew like this during KCW or do you start a project and follow it all the way to the end? Either way I bet you have a little sewing to do!

day five: kcw june 2015

Welcome to day five of Kid’s Clothes Week. I say this every season, but don’t forget it’s Kid’s Clothes WEEK, not Kid’s Clothes take-the-weekend-off! You still need to find an hour to sew on Saturday and Sunday for KCW.

day five: kcw june 2015 // featured garments

1. antarctica or bust by Erin 2. stick insects by Fabienne 3. theo by Liselot 4. hoodie by Piia

It’s those fiddle-y bits at the end that I always get stuck on. A project gets abandoned because I’m afraid of my buttonholer, or the neck binding is too intimidating, or I’m just tired of sewing hems. This is when KCW saves the day! If you stick it out for a few more hours this weekend, it’ll all get done! Just because you love sewing doesn’t mean you have to love every single bit of sewing. Sometimes you need to power through the not so fun bits to get to the “look at this amazing thing I made” feeling.

day five: kcw june 2015 // featured garments

1. flying in a paper plane twisted tank by Alison 2. spotty shorts by Jenny 3. floral flutter sleeve tshirt by Ann 4. multicultural dress by Ornella

I bet all these sewers are feeling that feeling right about now. There are so many gorgeous garments in the project pool: spotty shorts, proper button-ups, and even a self-drafted hoodie! You guys blow me away!!
