day four: kcw april 2015

It’s day four of Kid’s Clothes Week and my admiration for these handmade clothes has turned to jealousy. I want these kids’ clothes! They are bold and beautiful and your kids wear them so well.

day four: kcw april 20151. it’s hip to be square by Trine 2. wild flower swimsuit by Carin 3. super bunny jacket by Toya 4. purple rocking sweatshorts by Maartje

These are truly one of a kind clothes. The swimsuit above is made with Liberty of London wild flowers print–a nod to the wild things theme. It will be hands down the most beautiful swimsuit at the beach this summer! The sweet pink jacket on that cute bunny is not only hand quilted, but it has an extra special and extra awesome hand quilted design on the back.

day four: kcw april 20151. birdy by Elke 2. rainbow totoro skipper top by Karly 3. bunny jammies by Jenny 4. neon wild thing by Nicki

Maybe you feel like the slightly screwed up, tangle of threads, half-finished mess in front of you is not the one of a kind garment you were hoping for. Don’t worry, we’ve all been there. Head over to the KCW Facebook page to vent a little.  It’ll make you feel better. Then you can take on that mess of a garment and turn it into something amazing.

day four: kcw feb 2015

1. copy cat leather shoulder sweatshirt by Amanda 2. tee with golden stencil by Marta 3. upcycled cowgirl romper by Carin 4. stripy dinosaur pajamas by Melissa

How is the week going for you? Success after success? Mistake after mistake? KCW is all about making mistakes and sewing on anyway. It is hard though when something you envisioned just so turns out very much not so. I hope the UPCYCLED theme makes mistakes easier to take. No one was going to wear that shirt, skirt, suit anyway, right?

day four: kcw feb 2015

1. stripes and pink leggings by Roxanne 2. 1 top = 2 skirts by Patricia 3. upcyced hipster henley by April 4. knee patch parsley pants by Megan

Even if not everything you make is perfect, it doesn’t mean what you made isn’t awesome. Because look at all these amazing handmade clothes! Not to mention the gorgeous photography and cute kids too. You made all that! And it’s only day four!

There are the yellow boats inspired by Curious George making paper boats in Curious George Rides a Bike. Pretty vintage prints inspired by the drawings of Gyo Fujikawa. And did you know there is an entire series going on right now about sewing clothes inspired by the illustrator Marcel Marlier?! That pretty dress up there is just one of the many garments in the series.

1. elephant & piggie by Ren 2. moon rabbit by Meritxell 3. planet of mars shirt by Molly 4. the miffy dress by Lisa

And would you look at that Elephant and Piggie sweater up there?! Gerald is handing Piggie an ice cream cone button! This is good stuff, people. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. Moon Rabbit, Shel Silverstein, and Miffy? They are all represented along with so many more children’s books. Some of which I haven’t even heard of, but now I’m excited to check out!
