swimsuit week winners

Hey guys! Just wanted to pop in quickly this morning. We’ve just gotten back from another quick cottage getaway, where we spent SO much time in the water, which I feel is totally appropriate as we’re wrapping up our swimsuit weeks.

I still actually need to share the swimsuits I’ve made with you guys, but I didn’t want to keep those of you that entered in our awesome giveaway waiting!

The prizes were in no particular order, so let’s recap and see who won each one!

First prize was a 30$ gift card for The Fabric Fairy and 1 swimsuit pattern from Simple Life Company. The Fabric Fairy has slowly become one of my go to’s for when it comes to purchasing swimwear fabric. They have great quality, huge selection of solids and prints (in both boardshort and nylon/spandex) that I’m always able to find what I’m looking for. And the Simple Life is a newer to me pattern shop, but I’ve really fallen hard for the designs they’ve created, especially in their swimsuit patterns. I want to say a huge congrats to the winner of this package, Melissa!!!

Our second prize was a 30$ gift card for Raspberry Creek Fabrics and 1 swimsuit pattern from Upcraft Club. Honestly, I can’t say enough good things about Raspberry Creek and Upcraft. These are two amazing women that have both created amazing shops. At Raspberry, you’ll be able to find one of a kind prints on swim and board that they print in house, and each summer they bring out great new designs with adorable coordinates. And at Upcraft, you’ll be able to browse through a curated list of pattern designers to find the swim pattern you’ll have been looking for, and maybe even a new to you designer! Huge congrats to the winner of this package, Judith!!

And last but not least, we have a 25$ gift card for Peekaboo Pattern Shop. Here, you’ll be able to find everything you need, since Peekaboo is not only a pattern shop that carries adorable styles of patterns for both boys and girls, but also carries a great selection of swim and boardshort fabric as well! I personally love that they have SPF 50 fabrics specifically too. You’ll be able to choose your pattern AND the fabric you’ll want to match it up with. Big congrats to the winner of this one, Lim Hwee Ke!!

All you lovely ladies will be getting an email from me shortly! So make sure to check your inboxes! And again, I want to say a HUGE thank you to our sponsors for these past two weeks full of swimsuits! I’ll be back to share what I’ve made throughout the weeks in a few days.

boy swimsuit trends 2019

Hey guys! As part of the next two swimsuit weeks, we’re dedicating this week to boys, and today, we’re discussing trends! It’s hard to trend boy’s swimsuits. Styles seem to stay pretty consistent throughout several years for boys. Which is nice, since if you’re one of those that sew so that things last more then just one summer, that means that your makes will last a long time and still in style!

Even with boys, there’s quite a few different styles you can opt to go with, be it shorter board shorts, a knee length short, a tighter brief or speedo look or even a one piece. There’s just a lot of options available and it all comes down to what style you’re looking to do. I’ve noticed a lot of blues this year in what’s being sold in store and it reflects in the trends pieces I found online as well. Like the above pictures though, it’s also nice to see little pops of more muted colours as well, be it with tone on tone blues like on the right, or a fun print of pastels with a quirky print like in the middle picture. I’m also digging seeing a bit of pink on blue like on the left and those mini stripes and purple! For those that are worried that it would be to feminine, the cooler tones still give it a boy vibe, and sometimes slight print can also add to that.

One of the things that always seems to be popular with boys are shark prints! Sharks are a definite symbol of going to the beach, they’re on almost everything from floatie and waveboards to sunglasses and chairs, so why shouldn’t they be on swimsuits as well?!? And honestly, what boy doesn’t like sharks?? Again, you can find shark print on blues, but it’s also fun to see thing in other colours as well, a gray for example, even a non traditional, bolder colour would also make for a fun swimsuit!

And finally stripes!!! You can never go wrong with a striped swimsuits. Every year, new colour combinations seem to pop up and bring these swimsuits to life. From ombre toned suits, to a bolder colour combination and even adding a prints in the mix like the black and white trunks on the right. You can use these as inspiration to create your own colour blocking or you can find a stripes print that suits your needs. This is probably one of the more versatile looks that you can find!

I hope this has helped to inspire you to sew some swim trunks! Check back tomorrow for some pattern inspiration to help bring your ideas to life. And don’t forget to enter the giveaway below for your chance at one of these amazing prize packs!

announcing swimsuit weeks

I’m not sure about where you guys are at, but the nice weather has finally decided to stay around here north of the border, which means that we’re also starting to enjoy more and more in the water! Every year, I have the same issue, I need to make more swimsuits.

I used to think sewing swimwear was for those expert seamstresses that seemed to know everything about sewing. But after sewing my first swimsuit a few years ago, I quickly learned that sewing swimsuits is just as easy as sewing with any other knit fabric. It’s a skill that, at times may seem tricky or finicky, but once you spend a little bit of time on it, you’ll turn out amazing results and you won’t want to go back to store bought swimsuits ever again!

So in the hopes to help all of you out there that aren’t sure how to tackle swimwear sewing, those that just want a helping or for those that are looking for a resource to fall back on when they’re in need of some info, we’ve devised a plan for you guys this summer! We’re hosting a two week series and sew along (starting today) to help you with all your basic swimwear needs. If you’re not ready to sew quite yet, that’s totally ok, you can always come back to this series as a resource guide for any future projects you may have.

We’ll be tackling both girls and boys swimsuits throughout the next two weeks, from fabrics to patterns to a step by step guide on sewing a pair of swim trunks and a swimsuit.

We’ve divided the next two weeks into trunks and swimsuits, this week we’ll be focusing on swimwear for the boys, talking about swimwear trends, patterns and also including where to purchase the ever elusive board short fabric!

We’re also hosting a giveaway!! Thanks to our generous sponsors, we’re be offering three amazing prizes, perfect for those that haven’t gotten their supplies yet for this summer’s swimwear making. Make sure to enter below for the giveaway and check back tomorrow to see what we’ll be talking about!
