wrap up: kcw oct 2014

That’s a wrap folks! Another fantastic season of Kid’s Clothes Week has flooded the internet with creative and beautiful handmade children’s clothes. Season after season you blow me away with your creativity and your skills! Some of my favorites from the season are pictured below. The first collages showcases a beautiful and super modern fall pallette: rich navies and purples, muted browns and yellows, and light grays and pinks. Eat your heart out Pantone!

1. corduroy bunny by Emily 2. baby dress by Inkie 3. triangle baby leggings by Carla 4. hemlock dress by Marta 5. constellation pjs by Kristin 6. floral franklin dress by Sara 7. cisse by Sandrine 8. ovide dress by Yeke 9. carousel dress by Gail

This season’s theme was by far the most successful. All the clothes in the collage below are inspired by children’s books. You made costume-y clothes & everyday clothes all taken from you and your kids’ favorite storybooks. I think it was not only exciting for you to combine books and sewing, but I think your children were quite taken with how you made their favorite characters come to life!

1. wildwood prue dress by Melissa 2. mr. frumble’s pickle car by Wendy 3. (charlie and) lola dress by Marta 4. mille duizendvoet sweater by Mieke 5. love you to the moon and back by Fabienne 6. olivia pig costume by Darcy 7. deer in the woods dress by Stacy 8. book inspired by Brittney 9. miffy norah dress by Shino

And you have made many a little girl’s Frozen dreams come to life this season as well. I couldn’t wrap up this season without showing off all the Elsa and Anna (and a few Olafs) you made. Disney does not make things easy for us sewers with all of their satin-y, tuile-y ball gowns. That stuff is incredibly hard to sew! You guys came up with so many different, creative solutions to making an ice princess dress for a young girl. And now you can Let it Go!

We have some fantastic things coming up! Later this week, we will pick one of you to win the participant giveaway. And our contributors will be back in the coming weeks interviewing some fantastic KCWers. The popular series, Why I Sew, will also be back later in the month. So stay tuned!

If you are interested in being a contributor for an upcoming season on KCW, please email me at kidsclothesweek@gmail.com with a paragraph about yourself, a link to your KCW profile page, and a few photos of what you’ve sewn.  Happy KCW!

day six: kcw fall 2014

Welcome to day 6 of Kid’s Clothes Week! Are you still sewing strong? Are you starting to lose motivation? Maybe looking at these fabulous finished garments will give you that little push to finish what you are working on.

day six: kcw oct 2014

1. roodkapje by Lieselot 2. ponderosa dress by Brienne 3. julia sweater by Natalie 4. strawberry étage top by Amanda

You guys always inspire me with the beautiful colors and prints you choose. The mix of fabrics above is like the perfect fall day: bright reds, deep greens, burnt orange, and a splash of magenta!

day six: kcw oct 2014

1. football onesie by Brittney 2. rocky balboa by Christie 3. wolf scarf hat by Heather 4. baby bjork by Molly

And oh my goodness, the costumes are out of this world!! It seems that this KCW was perfectly timed for costume making this year. Close enough to Halloween so you don’t feel super rushed, but not far enough away that the kids are changing their minds every five minutes (or maybe that happens anyway).  I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but you might make me change my mind. Rocky Balboa?! Baby Bjork?! these amazing things wouldn’t happen if it weren’t for Halloween–and your mean sewing skillz!!

Happy KCW!

day five: kcw oct 2014

It’s already day 5 of Kid’s Clothes Week. The project pool is positively blowing up! I want to favorite every single project in there.

day five: kcw oct 2014

1. peg the cat dress by Amy 2. a girl with freckles tee by Julie 3. tablecloth raincoat by Erin 4. catching a star by Maria

I mean would you just look at those clothes up there?! Outfits made to match a favorite cartoon (peg the cat!), rain coats made out of tablecloths, and a simple shirt stenciled with a sweet quote, “A girl without freckles is like a night without stars.” I think it’s amazing that we have found a creative outlet that makes us feel good and makes our kids feel pretty amazing too.

day five: kcw oct 2014

1. the paper bag princess by Tasha 2. pierre top by Marisa 3. tomten and the fox pjs by Amanda 4. secret garden inspired cape by April

Now don’t stop and pat yourself on the back just yet. There are still two more days in this challenge. And KCW is really about doing a little bit each day. Maybe you went for broke this week and you are ready to throw in the towel. That is when you need to sit down in front of your sewing machine the most. An hour, that’s it!

If Tasha can sew a dress out of a paper bag, you can sit down and sew for an hour each day this weekend. Good luck and happy KCW!
